5 Reasons to stay at Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resort

When it comes to deciding upon which Disney resort to stay at, you are really are spoilt for choice. Each and every Disney hotel and villa is comfortable, clean and well equipped so our only deciding factor is what suits our needs and our budget.

One of our favourite Disney Resorts is the Yacht and Beach Club and here are our top five reasons why we love it.

Location, location, location!!!!!

For us, this was the biggest plus with this resort. The Yacht and Beach Club is positioned next to Disney’s Boardwalk which is home to some great places to eat, grab snacks and drinks, shop, and relax. Evening entertainment on the Boardwalk kept our tribe amused and the ESPN bar was great for us grown ups to relax after a morning or day of walking around the parks.

A short walk (approx. 5 mins) away from the resort is the park entrance to Epcot’s World Showcase. Even though the World Showcase doesn’t fully open until 11am we loved the early morning walk through the different countries on our way to the front of the park which is home to Soarin, Mission: Space and a number of other great rides and attractions.

In the opposite direction to Epcot is the river walkway to Hollywood Studios. A slightly longer walk (approx. 20 mins), but still very pleasant, and a great way to wake everyone up.Β  Our tribe spent this time talking about what rides they’d like to do and also what they’d like to spend their snack credits on!

If you aren’t keen on walking, and we have to admit there were several days when we didn’t fancy it, there are the Friend Ship boats that run regularly between Epcot, the Swan and Dolphin Resort and Hollywood Studios.

Make a splash at Stormalong Bay

The Yacht and Beach Club is home to the most amazing pools. It’s entirely up to you whether decide to chill in the lazy river, swim in the beautiful sand-bottomed pool or speed down the 230 feet long waterslide. Our tribe usually went straight for the waterslide option while we had a slightly calmer time up on the sundeck.

In addition to Stormalong Bay, there are two quiet pools which also have steaming whirlpool spas so you can soak away any tension and relax aching muscles.

Activities in and around the Lake

There are lots of activities that take place in and around Crescent Lake. We must be honest in saying that we haven’t done all of these, but the people taking part in all the different activities seem to be having a lot fun. Surrey bikes are one activity that look like a lot ofΒ  fun, not to mention hilarious to watch as a pedestrian; as long as you can move out of way a bit swiftly! Invariably a family will go zooming past, seemingly out of control of their Surrey bike but all laughing and having a great time.

Boat and fishing hire are available from Bayside Marina as are guided fishing tours. None of our tribe are into boating or fishing, but it’s there if you fancy trying it.

All of these activities come at an additional cost but use of the resort jogging path is absolutely free and really quite beautiful. Just think of the step count!

Movies under the Stars

This is an activity we love!! It’s a bit different from the usual ‘dash back into the parks after dinner’ and is a fabulous family activity. Okay we aren’t talking to each other, but there’s something quite special to be sitting out in the balmy Orlando evening enjoying a classic Disney film together – perfect.

Watch the fireworks from outside of the Parks

Now we aren’t saying that this is better than seeing IllumiNations or the fireworks at Hollywood Studios up close, of course we aren’t, but there was something quite lovely about watching the fireworks from the resort. The larger fireworks can be clearly seen from Crescent Lake and if you are fortunate to have a room that overlooks the Lake you can watch them from your balcony. We would sit out on our balcony with a cupcake and a drink in hand and enjoy the show. No words were required, it was magical.

If you fancy an elegant hotel with great access to the parks and with a variety of activities to keep your tribe happy, then this resort is well worth a look in. We love it….you might do too.
